Working From Home: 4 Ways to Increase Productivity.

Working from home is difficult (it really is)

The coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic has resulted in millions around the world being forced to work remotely until the virus is contained or a cure is found.

While working from home sounds like a dream come true for many of us, it can be difficult to transition into an entirely different work environment. This can lead to a lack of focus and lower productivity.

Here are 4 ways to increase productivity while working from home:

1. Choose a workplace

It is tempting to be in bed or on the couch while working in your home. However, if the lines between your personal and professional space are blurred, not only will your productivity take a hit, but your personal life might be affected too. Having a designated working spot different from the common areas in the rest of your house can drastically improve remote work productivity. It helps to shut out distractions and enables you to focus on your work.

2. Create a schedule

While working remotely, it’s easy for people to get distracted in the absence of a proper schedule. Therefore, it is essential to have a fixed schedule, clearly outlining your working hours and your breaks throughout the day. This helps in improving your overall efficiency as it provides structure and organisation.

3. Establish a clear line of communication

Communication is key while working from home. While instant messaging and emails might help you stay connected, they aren’tt a good substitute for face to face interactions. It’s essential for employees to communicate and collaborate with one another through video chats and phone calls. We understand some companies might not have the capabilities to conduct operations remotely, so businesses should focus on updating their traditional office to a digital workplace to allow its employees the flexibility to work at other locations.

4. Organise virtual social interactions with your co-workers

Social interaction is a key element of any workplace. Therefore, it is essential for you to have some organized virtual social interactions to get out of the daily rut. These social interactions help you experience some form of normality during these unusual times. It is easy for people to feel overwhelmed, alone and anxious while being isolated. Such social interactions help maintain your mental health by reaching out and providing support to one another. These add up to the remote work productivity of each individual and ultimately, the entire organisation too.

Do you agree with these simple ways to improve productivity when working remotely? What other tips and tricks have you used to focus during this crisis?
